The trial by media of military hero Ben Roberts-Smith

The arrest of the highly decorated Australian soldier Ben Roberts-Smith is a matter of concern.

The way in which the Australian Federal Police made such a show of arresting Ben Roberts-Smith in public is a strong indication that the Federal Police are deliberately using the case to gain publicity for themselves. It was no coincidence that the mainstream media were there to cover the event; it seems to be highly likely that someone within the Federal Police tipped off the mainstream media, so as to create a public spectacle and give the Federal Police some publicity. Quite frankly, that appears to be a type of corruption, using someone’s arrest for personal benefit or institutional benefit, something which has no connection to justice whatsoever. Indeed, the arrest has been described as “Pure political theatre.”

There are those within the mainstream media who love attacking Australian military heroes, and there are ideological reasons for that.

The Australian people need to understand that the Far Left have a special bias against the military, as military forces are viewed as an arm of the “white male patriarchy”; from this stems a special hatred for military leaders and heroes, which is why various Leftist journalists, Leftist writers, and Leftist ideologues love nothing more than trying to tear down and defame Australian military heroes, the Anzacs, and the Australian military in general (they will sometimes give positive lip service, occasionally praising the Anzacs in public, but it’s all a front).

If there are legitimate concerns over certain legalities that arise from military actions, then that would be a reason for a proper military investigation, but not a reason for a police-created media circus.

The treatment of Ben Roberts-Smith by the mainstream media and the Australian Federal Police smells to high heaven. It’s almost as if they are trying their best to make it impossible for Ben Roberts-Smith to receive a fair trial, by trying to create bias against Ben Roberts-Smith within the mind of the Australian public. It is unlikely that a jury could be found that hasn’t already heard about Ben Roberts-Smith. Most jurors walking into a court for such a trial have now been irrevocably tainted with bias arising from the current trial by media.

This situation should have been properly handled by the military a long time ago. The fact that it wasn’t indicates that there are huge problems with this particular case, and that it has been poorly handled from the start.

To carry out a proper trial for a situation which occurred well over a decade ago, and overseas, is highly problematic. However, what we can do is investigate a current crime, the leaking of the details of a police operation from within the Australian Federal Police. If there are corrupt police officers within the Australian Federal Police, then that is something that deserves investigation. Where is the media outrage and show trial over that situation? Their silence speaks volumes.
