Former Labor defence minister Joel Fitzgibbon recently spoke at the 2025 Anzac Day address at North Bondi in Sydney. Amongst what has perhaps become fairly standard rhetoric from current and former politicians calling for such things as a “bi-partisan approach to defence” and increasing Australia’s defence budget to a certain percentage of GDP, Fitzgibbon lamented that “as a civilian community, complacency has grown amongst us.”
“Just as we in the West appear to have lost the will to reproduce ourselves in sufficient number, we seem to have lost the will to adequately protect ourselves”, Mr Fitzgibbon said.
The above is a fascinating and significant statement, especially considering its source.
It’s a clear inference that the best people to protect Western civilisation might actually be Western people. Not non-Western immigrants or their descendents. Perhaps also inferred is the understanding that immigrant populations, may even become (shall we presume) a hindrance to Western defence. Dare we mention “Fifth Columns”?
Perhaps pursuing policies that might increase Western birthrates, whilst reducing non-Western immigration might actually help to create a stronger Australia in the future? Perhaps Joel Fitzgibbon could suggest that to some of his old Labor mates?
