Don Bradman, 110th anniversary

It was 110 years ago today that Don Bradman was born. This young lad from Cootamundra, in New South Wales, went on to become the greatest cricketer of all time, not only in Australia, but in the whole world.

His Test batting average per innings was 99.94 (it is one of the great regrets of cricketing history that he played one final match, in which he was bowled for a duck, because otherwise he would have retired with an average of 100).
However, in Sheffield Shield matches, his batting average was 110.19.

“The Don” was, and is, a sporting legend — he has been an inspiration to millions of Australians.

It is people like Bradman who should remind us that Australians are capable of greatness and outstanding achievements.
