Ironbark Social Club: Saturday 25 February 2012

Ironbark Social Club: Saturday 25 February 2012, 4pm.

The Ironbark Social Club is a friendly monthly get-together (in Sydney) where Conservatives, Nationalists, Constitutionalists, Anthropogenic climate change sceptics, and other Australians concerned about where this country is headed can discuss issues of concern in a PC-free environment. It’s a good way of meeting like-minded people and forming new social networks.

It is a great privilege to announce that this month’s Guest Speaker is Kirralie Smith, the founder of Halal Choices, a website and information service for the Australian public – it is all about providing opportunities for people to make informed decisions about the food products they purchase.

You may be aware that despite the fact that less than 2% of Australia’s population is estimated to be Muslim, there is a current trend towards companies paying fees to have their product Halal-certified. Certification covers food that has undergone Islamic religious ritual or that is “halal” (approved by Islamic law) and is, in effect, an Islamic tax that is unnecessary for the majority of Australians.

Unfortunately there is no law that makes companies put this information on their labels, so consumers may not even be aware that they are paying for this certification. On www.halalchoices.com.au you will find a list of companies and brands that are paying this Islamic tax.

When addressing a meeting, Kirralie will also share many interesting, and sometimes infuriating stories about some of the 500 brands researched so far. You will be amazed at many of the companies’ reactions and even threats regarding this website.

So come along, invite your friends! Contact Darrin (ph. 0431 739 260) or Nick (ph. 0417 679 972) for more information.

Hi I recently emailed Cadbury about this issue and this was their response

Subject: Cadbury Consumer Services – Our Ref#: 487918-826303745 VM

    Dear Mrs Elliott,

Thank you for your recent enquiry regarding Halal certification.

Cadbury proudly makes products that are enjoyed by people of every race, colour and creed. We are also fiercely proud of being an Australian/New Zealand business with locally manufactured products that are exported to markets throughout South East Asia.

One of the main reasons we carried a Halal certification symbol on the packaging of some of our products was to ensure that people of Muslim faith could identify our products as including ingredients that meet their consumption requirements. However, as part of a recent packaging refresh across many of our product lines we elected to place information relating to Halal certification on our website rather than on the product itself. This information can now be found at: http://www.cadbury.com.au/Products/Halal-Products

Apart from referencing our Halal certification status online, rather than on-pack, little else has changed; and Halal certified Cadbury products remain treats that people of Muslim faith, both here in Australia/New Zealand and elsewhere, can continue to enjoy.

We would also like to make clear that the Halal certification of our products is not intended to offend any other cultural or religious belief; and does not prevent other faiths from being able to purchase and consume our products.

We hope this addresses your question and any concerns you might have. Cadbury produces products that bring joy to millions of people across the world every day, and we’re determined to keep doing that.

If you have any further enquiries please do not hesitate to contact us on 1800 250 260 during business hours.

    Kind regards

    • Thanks For your comment TrueBlue62,

The Consumer Relations Advisor's quote below is quite scary, it looks like Cadbury is getting sneaky and trying to hide the fact they support Halal, hiding the Halal symbol from those who look for those types of logos in the shops… I guess lots of Cadbury customers have complained about the Halal support in the past, sneaky, sneaky and very sneaky!

However, as part of a recent packaging refresh across many of our product lines we elected to place information relating to Halal certification on our website rather than on the product itself

A Geelong abattoir union rep said recently that many slaughtermen are now Muslim and that animals are no longer being stunned prior to slaughter. This is very concerning.

Halal… So many brands .. kellogs included.

The quickest way to turn a population muslim is to feed them Halal food.

Cruel and barbaric. Shame on our Govt for allowing Sharia practices to exist in our beautiful country. SHAME.

Every Mosque that is built is another score for islam..

sharia coming closer all the time.

    Multiculturists are idiots

  4. There is something seriously wrong when some of our most well known and most loved brands are paying to fund terrorism in this fashion; especially when followers of this barbaric doctrine number less than 2% of the Australian population!!

I love cracker barrel cheese, but unfortunately I cannot eat it any longer, due to my abhorrence toward sharia law.

The harder we try to expose this the better it will be.

I'm sure current affair will get hold of the story soon and that can only be a positive step toward erradicating this islamic cancer
