Buddhist Temple Won’t Result in Southern Suburbs Nirvana

Media release

Australian Protectionist Party National Chairman and South Australian Spokesman Mr. Andrew Phillips today condemned the State Government for considering the construction of a massive Buddhist complex in the southern suburbs of Adelaide.

“ It is ridiculous to think that Nan Hai Pu Tuo Inc have submitted an almost identical proposal to that submitted in 1997 which clearly divided the community in the southern suburbs” Mr. Phillips said “It’s a slap in the face to local residents and one can imagine that supporters will once again use the “racist” tag against those wanting to protect the traditional appearance of their area”.

The Australian Protectionist Party recognizes the right of Australians to protect their traditional values and national identity in the face of continued pressure to submit to the damaging and oppressive ideology of globalization, with all it’s sociological and economic ramifications.

“Surely this land could be put to better use for the local community as recreational parklands-35m high pagodas, 6 storey Buddhas, Chinese gardens have no place in a suburb such as Sellicks Hill and is a clear example of official multiculturalism gone mad” Mr. Phillips continued “ Furthermore, it is laughable for Minister Holloway to fall back on the spurious claim so often used by advocates for the Global Village that this temple will be a “tourist drawcard”.

“Why on earth would, for example, a Dutch tourist come to Adelaide just to look at this monstrosity which is so obviously out of character for the country he wishes to tour? Surely overseas tourists come here to enjoy our pristine beaches, the wildlife on Kangaroo Island, the vineyards of the Barossa and the Vales or local indigenous culture?”

“For Minister Holloway to attempt to placate local residents with the insinuation they might make a few quick bucks from groups of Buddhist monks and nuns gives us little faith in his ability to represent local concerns. His ridiculous claim we would be inundated with tourists is akin to implying Australians would travel all the way to the Netherlands just to stare at an Egyptian mummy” Mr. Phillips concluded.
