Time for Anzac ties to mature

Media release

Australian Protectionist Party National Chairman Mr. Andrew Phillips today applauded the call by NZ academic Professor Philippa Mein-Smith for Australia and New Zealand to further develop their historical ties.

“It is encouraging to hear academics focusing on the local region rather than regurgitating the tired and outdated global village line” Mr. Phillips said “Australia and New Zealand have had a close relationship throughout our history, but the time has come to review the relationship, explore new ways of co operation and further develop mutual respect”.

The Australian Protectionist Party strongly supports co operation between countries of shared heritage. The natural affinity one witnesses between kindred peoples should be encouraged and developed, not undermined by social engineering and the denial of one’s heritage.

“New Zealand is experiencing similar economic and social problems as those we witness here in Australia” Mr. Phillips continued “It makes sense that the two nations should build on our traditional relationship and work to protect our agricultural sectors from cheap foreign produce and the ravages of ill planned Free Trade Agreements”.

“Professor Mein-Smith’s observation that Australia should stop looking North and also become less reliant on America is well founded- one can only hope that our respective parliaments give her words serious thought, although considering how enamoured PM Rudd is with Communist China, I feel serious consideration on the issue will only come from Wellington” Mr. Phillips concluded.
